Yoh Moment Competition

Terms and Conditions

1. Promoter

1.1 The promoter of the Yoh Moment Competition (“Competition”) is Futurelect, with its principal place of business at 10th Floor, 16 Baker St, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196 (“Futurelect” or “the Promoter”).

1.2 The Competition forms part of Futurelect’s Yoh, That’s Local Government civic education campaign.

1.3 Participation in the Competition is subject to these Terms and Conditions.

2. Competition period

2.1 The Competition opens on 30 August 2026 at 23:59 SAST.

2.2 The Competition closes on 4 November 2026 at 23:59 SAST.

2.3 No entries received after the closing time will be accepted.

2.4 Futurelect’s systems and records will be used to determine the date and time at which an entry was received.

3. Who may enter

3.1 The Competition is open to natural persons who:

a. are South African citizens;
b. are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry; and
c. comply with these Terms and Conditions.

3.2 Employees, directors, agents or consultants of Futurelect, persons who directly or indirectly control or are controlled by Futurelect, suppliers directly involved in the administration of the Competition and any other persons prohibited from entering under applicable South African law may not enter.

3.3 Futurelect may require a provisional winner to provide reasonable proof of identity, age and South African citizenship before confirming that person as the winner.

4. How to enter

4.1 No purchase is required to enter the Competition.

4.2 To enter, an eligible participant must, during the Competition Period:

a. Visit the official Yoh, That’s Local Government campaign webpage;
b. provide their first name, surname and valid email address;
c. confirm that they are a South African citizen aged 18 years or older;
d. select one of the three Yoh Moment prompts;
e. submit a response of no more than 20 words;
f. comply with the content requirements set out in these Terms and Conditions; and
g. accept these Terms and Conditions.

4.3 The available Yoh Moment prompts are:

a. I knew local government was personal when…
b. The local government thing I wish someone had explained sooner is…
c. My biggest yoh moment was learning that…

4.4 Only one verified entry per person is permitted.

4.5 Multiple entries submitted by or on behalf of the same person may be disqualified.

4.6 Existing LGE Weekly subscribers are eligible to enter the Competition and are not required to subscribe again.

4.7 Standard internet or data costs charged by an entrant’s network or internet service provider may apply. Futurelect does not charge a fee to enter.

5. Entry requirements

5.1 Each Yoh Moment must be 20 words or fewer.

5.2 Entries must not name, identify, or clearly refer to:

a. a political party;
b. a political candidate;
c. a public official;
d. a municipality; or
e. a private person.

5.3 Entries must not:

a. contain unlawful, threatening, defamatory, discriminatory, abusive, hateful or otherwise inappropriate material;
b. contain personal information relating to another individual;
c. infringe another person’s copyright, trade mark, privacy or other rights;
d. promote or oppose a political party or candidate;
e. constitute political campaigning;
f. contain materially false or misleading information; or
g. conflict with the non-partisan civic education purpose of the campaign.

5.4 Futurelect may disqualify an entry that does not comply with these requirements.

6. Prize

6.1 There is one prize.

6.2 The prize is one iPhone 17 valued at up to R20,000, subject to procurement and availability.

6.3 The final model, storage capacity, colour and other product specifications will be subject to availability at the time of procurement.

6.4 Where the stated device is genuinely unavailable, Futurelect may, where legally permissible, provide a device of reasonably equivalent or greater value.

6.5 The prize may not be exchanged for cash by the winner.

6.6 The prize may not be transferred to another person.

6.7 Futurelect will not require the winner to pay a fee to claim or receive the prize.

7. Winner selection

7.1 One provisional winner will be selected at random from all eligible, verified entries received during the Competition Period.

7.2 The random draw will take place after the Competition closes.

7.3 The draw will be conducted with appropriate independent oversight in accordance with applicable South African law.

7.4 The provisional winner will be contacted using the email address supplied when entering.

7.5 Being drawn does not automatically make an entrant the confirmed winner.

7.6 Before confirmation, Futurelect may request reasonable documentation to verify:

a. identity;
b. age;
c. South African citizenship;
d. compliance with the Competition rules; and
e. that the entry was genuinely submitted by that person.

7.7 The provisional winner must respond to Futurelect within five business days of the first winner notification unless Futurelect reasonably allows additional time.

7.8 If the provisional winner:

a. cannot be contacted after reasonable attempts;
b. fails to respond within the required period;
c. does not provide reasonably requested verification information;
d. is found to be ineligible; or
e. is found to have breached these Terms and Conditions,

Futurelect may disqualify that person and conduct another random draw from the remaining eligible entries.

7.9 A winner will only be announced after successful verification.

8. Prize delivery

8.1 Futurelect will arrange reasonable delivery of the prize within South Africa or may agree with the winner that the prize will be collected from an appropriate Futurelect location.

8.2 The confirmed winner may be required to provide a telephone number and delivery address for the sole purpose of arranging secure prize delivery.

8.3 The winner may be required to acknowledge receipt of the prize.

9. Publicity and use of the winner’s image

9.1 Winning the Competition does not require the winner to participate in publicity, interviews, photography, video content, social media content or any other marketing activity.

9.2 Futurelect may invite the winner to participate in campaign-related publicity.

9.3 The winner may decline any such request without losing the prize.

9.4 Futurelect will obtain appropriate consent before publishing identifiable images, video, quotations or other personal information relating to the winner.

10. Use of Yoh Moment entries

10.1 Entering the Competition does not automatically give Futurelect permission to publish an entrant’s Yoh Moment.

10.2 Entrants may separately choose to give Futurelect permission to use their Yoh Moment anonymously in campaign, civic education or related Futurelect content.

10.3 Choosing not to provide publication permission will not affect an entrant’s eligibility or chance of winning.

10.4 Where permission has been given, Futurelect may make minor edits for spelling, grammar, length, layout or formatting provided that the original meaning is not materially changed.

10.5 Futurelect will not identify an entrant as the author of a published Yoh Moment unless separate permission has been obtained.

11. Personal information

11.1 Futurelect will process personal information provided by entrants for purposes reasonably necessary to:

a. administer the Competition;
b. verify eligibility and entries;
c. select and contact the provisional winner;
d. deliver the prize;
e. prevent fraud or abuse;
f. keep appropriate Competition records; and
g. comply with applicable legal obligations.

11.2 Futurelect will seek to collect only the personal information reasonably required for these purposes.

11.3 Additional personal information, such as proof of identity, telephone number or delivery address, will generally only be requested from a provisional winner where reasonably necessary.

11.4 Personal information will be processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and Futurelect’s applicable privacy policies and notices.

11.5 Competition entry is separate from consent to receive optional marketing or communications.

12. LGE Weekly and Futurelect communications

12.1 Entrants may separately choose to receive Futurelect’s LGE Weekly email series.

12.2 Consent to receive LGE Weekly is optional and is not required in order to enter or win the Competition.

12.3 Entrants may separately choose whether they wish to receive other Futurelect news and communications after 4 November 2026.

12.4 An entrant may withdraw their consent or unsubscribe from electronic communications using the unsubscribe mechanism provided.

12.5 Unsubscribing from Futurelect communications will not invalidate an otherwise eligible Competition entry.

13. Disqualification and abuse

13.1 Futurelect may disqualify an entrant or entry where there are reasonable grounds to believe that:

a. the entrant does not meet the eligibility criteria;
b. more than one entry has been submitted by the same person;
c. materially false or misleading information was supplied;
d. the Competition has been manipulated or abused;
e. automated, fraudulent or unauthorised entry methods have been used;
f. another person’s identity has been used;
g. the entry breaches these Terms and Conditions; or
h. allowing the entry to remain would compromise the fair or lawful administration of the Competition.

14. Technical problems

14.1 Futurelect is not responsible for entries that are not successfully submitted because of circumstances outside its reasonable control, including internet connectivity failures, device problems or interruptions affecting third-party networks or services.

14.2 This clause does not exclude any liability or consumer right that may not lawfully be excluded.

15. Changes, suspension or cancellation

15.1 Futurelect may amend, suspend or cancel the Competition where reasonably necessary because of fraud, technical failure, legal requirements or circumstances outside its reasonable control.

15.2 Any material amendment affecting entrants will be communicated through the campaign webpage or another reasonable channel.

15.3 Futurelect will administer any change in a manner consistent with applicable South African law.

16. Social media platforms and third parties

16.1 The Competition is administered by Futurelect.

16.2 Unless expressly stated otherwise, the Competition is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with any social media platform through which Competition content is distributed.

16.3 The use of an iPhone as the prize does not mean that Apple Inc. sponsors, endorses or administers the Competition or is associated with Futurelect or the campaign.

17. Competition records

17.1 Futurelect will maintain Competition records for the period required by applicable South African law.

17.2 These records may include the Competition rules, promotional materials, eligible entries, draw records, verification documentation, winner communications and evidence of prize delivery.

18. General

18.1 Futurelect’s decision regarding eligibility, verification and administration of the Competition will be applied reasonably and consistently with these Terms and Conditions and applicable law.

18.2 Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to exclude or restrict any right that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other applicable law.

18.3 If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

19. Governing law

19.1 These Terms and Conditions and the Competition are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
